Chapter 2
chapter 2:
the pine barrens/the abandoned cabin
Day 1
After we arrived at the Pine barren woods, Chris decided to take a look around after we set up camp. Setting up camp wasn't easy, because the way you have to put up a tent requires some rope and some bolts. The only people who were working on the tents was Me, Chris, and Julia. Donnie was doing absolutely nothing but being absolutely lazy on his ass playing angry birds. After I asked him many times to help us, he refused to do it. I wasnt sure if it was out of spite or what, but I wish he could've just helped. The tent was finally finished and Julia went back to the jeep and told Donnie off about being lazy. You should've seen how pissed off she was at the time, but I still remembered what she said to him.
"You lazy piece of shit, you were playing angry birds the whole fucking time!?"
"OH come on ma...." Donnie said suddenly.
"Don't "oh come on" me Donnie, we have asked you hundreds of times to help us and you could not do that. Give me a good explanation as to why you wouldn't help us?" Donnie began to panic because he didn't really know what to say. Julia was playing with her keys like she was getting ready to attack him with it. "That's what I fucking thought, lazy ass" Julia had enough of Donnie, Chris ended up interviening when she threatened to beat up Donnie.
"Julia, what the fuck is going on? Your lashing out at Donnie for no reason."
"No reason!?" Julia exclaimed "We have been trying to get Donnie to help and he was just sitting there playing fucking angry birds."
"OK, I understand your frustration but we came here to go on vacation for this weekend. There is no need to go lashing out your frustration on anyone, including Donnie. Which by the way Don, next time help us. Do you understand?" Donnie rolled his eyes, only for Chris to grab him and said "DO YOU UNDERSTAND!?"
"YES, YES I UNDERSTAND, I'M SORRY." Donnie then started crying. I wasn't so sure, and I haven't really thought of this before. I did remember having this strange feeling in the back of my mind that maybe there was something In these woods, maybe something watching us. Maybe that was what would lead to the disaster up ahead.
At 12:30 in the afternoon, we decided to go hiking out in the woods together. It's the first time I ever went hiking, and I never thought we'd see some really cool things. On the other hand, we came across something that we maybe we never should've stumbled across. It almost looked like remains of some kind of ritual of some sort. But we didn't pay much attention to that. The Pine barrens is known for strange paranormal activity. Just when we were going further into the woods, that feeling came back. Sometimes I feel like something was watching us in the woods, but only this time it was 0 to 100 with that feeling. "Jason, what's wrong" Chris asked me.
"OH it's nothing, just thought I saw something." Donnie then said "he's probably afraid of his own shadow" I replied with "OH shut the hell up dude" Donnie stopped talking after that, then we decided to go back to Basecamp when I suggested we head back after walking for about a couple of miles.
At 8:00 pm we decided to have dinner on the camp fire, had some smores and stuff like that. Chris decided to tell the story of the jersey devil, a old new jersey folktale about a mother of 12 children who after discovering she was pregnant with a 13th child, the child was cursed to look like a demon at birth. Some would say, the demon is still around haunting these very woods. "I heard this story before, the jersey devil doesn't really exist. Does it?" Julia asked. "I hardly doubt it, this place is known for paranormal activity. We may eventually have a paranormal experience."
"Who knew?" I said sarcastically. Then after that conversation we decided to head straight to bed and head to the lake.
DAY 2
Around noon on Saturday morning we decided to go down to the lake, have a look around. We decided to go swim around the lake for a couple of hours. It was really really fun to go swimming there. I had a couple of suspicions about Donnie that day when he was just staring, but it wasn't at me. I didn't know why Donnie was staring, but it felt really weird. I ended up approaching him asking "what are you staring at"
"OH nothing" he said. I started growing even more suspicious when he said that, so throughout the entire day I kept my eye on him since. But I would later understand why he acted so strange for what was to come to him later. Just then, that feeling came back. It felt like the trees were moving on their own and the environment felt a bit dark. And then I heard what sounded like scraping sounds on the trees. The feeling went away when Chris asked me if I was okay. Then it went back to normal. I don't know why I felt that way, but all this started since day 1.
Day 3
(Last few hours before leaving)
Today is the last day before we decided to go home. Chris wanted to make sure we spend the last day looking around the woods a bit more. I was a bit hesitant about going, but Chris insisted. I finally agreed to go hiking again, but I was hoping that the strange feeling would not happen again like the past 2 days. We did eventually come across a abandoned cabin. It was like someone used to live here 2 years ago. I know this, because by the time we entered the cabin, there was a video camera from someone who lived there.
"What happened here?" Donnie was puzzled just like the rest of us. It was like looking at a crime scene. The question was were was the body? The body was never found. All that was left was a dead camera and a SD card with all the footage. "Jason, whatever it is your thinking of doing? Don't." Chris told me, cause he knew right. I was thinking about taking the camera with me along with the SD card. I did secretly put the camera and the SD card in my bag without anyone looking. Then suddenly, I had that feeling again. But only this time I caught a glimpse of what was watching us. It wasn't a who, it was a what. "Guys, what is that thing?" That thing that had been watching us looked like a man and he was wearing a business suit. But there was another problem, why didn't he have a face? I could've sworn I saw tentacles coming out of his back and then the feeling got worse and worse when I started having coughing fits and a damn nosebleed. The fact I saw it up close just gave chills down my spine. I tried to warn everyone what was happening, but then suddenly, we were teleported back to base camp. Chris, Julia, and Donnie didn't seem to remember what happened. I did try to explain to them what I saw, but of course nobody believed me.
The last few hours before we left the Pine Barrens, we started taking down the tent and packed it all up. Everything was packed and we were ready to go. As we were driving, I looked back to that incident in the cabin. When I got back home, I decided to look into my bag and there it was. The camera and the SD card were safe. But my question was, how come they didn't remember?
